Analysis of my Perfume Ad

The image is long shot of a girl in which she is laying on a piano. To some people this could be perceived as seductive; a woman laying on a piano is used in some piano performances to be used as a sex symbol. This could indicate that the girl feels sexy due to the perfume, and that if you use it you too will feel sexy.

As the girl is on a grand piano, which are commonly used in large musical performances, it could mean the she feels comfortable and happy in front of a large audience now that she is wearing the perfume; people may think it will help them be more confident and buy the perfume.

Also, the girl is smiling which indicates she is happy and pleased; the perfume could be the reason she is happy. As the girl appears to be looking at you when you look at the advertisement it could make people think that she is doing it for a reason; the look has the meaning like, "If you wear this perfume you can be as happy as I am".

The advert has a gothic theme to it which could appeal to a particular audience; the perfume could appeal to young girls between the ages 14 to 21 who like gothic styled clothing/items. I would say the target audience age to be this as it tends to be younger girls that like gothic styles. The perfume may also appeal to people that like to be different; most advertisements are similar in the fact they have either celebrities or professional models, yet this advert has a normal, young girl who is not all glammed up and is not famous.

The use of the colour red, as well as helping the gothic theme, also can give several connotations to the perfume advert. Red can be associated with such things as danger and passion (danger: blood, passion: women with red lipstick in films, etc) which could appeal to some people who may want to live a bit more dangerously and have more passion in their lives.

Overall I think the advert does well in attracting a particular target audience, and a is also appealing enough for that audience to buy the perfume. The style and colouring work well in attracting attention and making the perfume look different the other perfumes; the advert singles this perfume out from the others.

Good on connotations, the non verbal dialogue of the girl and the use of colour.

You need to discuss the details of position, typeface and the perfume bottle. Also the name itself.
